Description
Arimidex contains a substance called “anastrozole”. It belongs to a group of medicines called ‘aromatase inhibitors’. Arimidex is used to treat breast cancer in menopausal women.
Arimidex works by reducing the concentration of a hormone called estrogen produced by your body. This is done by blocking a naturally occurring compound (enzyme) in your body called ‘aromatase’.
Do not take Arimidex:
If you are allergic to anastrozole or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding (see the section entitled “Pregnancy and breastfeeding”).
Do not take Arimidex if any of the following apply to you. If you are unsure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Arimidex.
The recommended dose is one tablet once daily.
Aim to take your tablet at the same time each day.
Swallow the tablet whole, with a sip of water.
